What Are You Listening To?

One thing that’s a must-have for me while I’m working out is music! Without it, I don’t think I’d have as good of a workout. On my way to the gym I usually rely on Nicki Minaj’s ”Pink Friday” CD to get me pumped up. The majority of her songs are upbeat and hit hard! Besides that she’s one of my favorite artists – raw and real! A sista that speaks the truth – chyea! If I’m not listening to her, it’s usually 9.43 WCYY (a rock/alternative station).

When I’m in the gym, during my warm-up and lift, you can find me listening to a variety of music. I’ve recently been asked what I listen to so here are a few examples coming directly from my iPod to YOU:

  • Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock – “It Takes Two” (If this doesn’t get you moving, I don’t know what will!)
  • Twista – “Slow Jamz” (No, really, check it out. If you know Twista, there ain’t nothin’ slow ‘bout his rapping!)
  • Kanye West – “The New Workout Plan” (‘Nuff said.)
  • Lil Jon & The East Side Boyz – “Get Low” (“From da windows to da walls…”)
  • Eric Prydz – “Call On Me” (Awesome music video to go along with this!)
  • Trick Daddy – “Take It to Da House”
  • DJ UNK – “Walk It Out
  • Daddy Yankee – “Gasolina
  • Kanye West – “Stronger”
  • Jennifer Lopez & Pitbull – “On the Floor”

I also like pretty much anything by Sean Paul. He’s FIRE! His reggae beats get me going! Michael JacksonBritney SpearsEminemJay-ZLady Gaga, and Beyonce are some more faves. The genre of music that truly gets me pumped up though is the rock/metal/hardcore stuff! Check this list out:

  • Disturbed – “Down With The Sickness” (Or pretty much ANYTHING by Disturbed!)
  • Drowning Pool – “Bodies”
  • Metallica – “Enter Sandman
  • Papa Roach – “Last Resort
  • Saliva – “Click Click Boom
  • Rammstein – “Du Hast” (Reminds me of the movie “How High”)
  • Rob Zombie – “Dragula
  • Marilyn Manson – “The Beautiful People
  • Godsmack – “Awake”
  • Limp Bizkit – “Break Stuff” and “Faith”
  • 3 Doors Down – “Kryptonite
  • Slipknot – “Spit It Out

Another tool to use if you have access to it is Pandora, the Internet Radio. I tend to listen to the 21 Minute Workout station. The only thing with Pandora that I’m not too keen on is that it recycles a lot of the songs. I want to listen to different songs, not the same one within the same workout.

As I’m cooling down, I like to listen to slower songs, but ones that still have a decent beat (read: Beyonce – “Halo” or Bon Jovi – “It’s My Life”).

I’d like to know what YOUR favorite music is to work out to! Please share with me below in the comment engine!
